How does the key release from ignition after being driven?

When I drive the vehicle and reach my destination and place it in park, when I try to take the key out it stays in. I have to remove the negative battery post and then the key releases. Could this a simple fuse issue or some major electrical issue?

Try spraying a little lube into the lock down past the key, it just may be a sticky tumbler in the lock, jiggle it around carefully and see if that helps, if it feels jammed tight, the barrel may be jambed and this will have to be replace as a unit.
