Car was driving along normal no noises and just lost all drive. Engine runs fine but now have no gears at all it locks in park, it starts only in park or neutral as should. Put it in reverse or forward gear and absolutely nothing. As if gearbox is missing, no noises no rev change nothing even if you give it throttle still nothing. Engine light is on and in self diagnostic it indicates code 82 faulty shift solenoid. Surely this wouldnt shut the whole box down or would it

Thanks but thats a bit hard when car has to be towed or trailered let alone the cost. I am terminally ill and on a single pension so had hoped to get some direction to do my self. Unfortunately I stopped working on cars when they put in computers and so much electronics. At least you can usually do enough to get home with the older holdens might as well burn it there not worth spending a lot on these days thanks

Yes, a faulty shift solenoid would stop pressure from getting through and cause loss of all gears.

Our database does not have any information on your vehicle so I can only provide the basics.

At the transmission there should be a wire connector from a wire harness going into the transmission. Check if the connector is secure and look out for broken wires and/or contaminated connector pins within the connector. Clean if necessary.

Thanks will check all connectors as soon as I am able to get under it. May be a day or so due to health, mean while I decided to take off top trans oil hose to radiator when pressures were mentioned and started the engine and it is not pumping any oil what so ever through the lines

No, the box will have to be removed and the torque converter taken out, I do feel that it will be a pump or governor that is the problem here, honestly, a replacement box will be the cheapest option, where in Aust are you?

I am in Wallaroo SA so what you are saying is it will be best to replace both box and converter of in which case depending on cost it would probbly not be worth doing since you can buy a VS from $600 up. It would have to be a cheap second handy and since I dont have any sentimental attachment to the car I might be better off to scrap it and find something else to get me back and forth to the hospital as I cant warrant spending more than the car is worth to fix it

Do not think that will work in yours, but just run it past a trans workshop, check for one in the phone book, don't know if you have one there you may have to try Port Pirie.
