my van wont start. the battery light came on yesterday. the alternator is new and the battery is too. what is wrong?

Measure the voltage on the two small wires on the back of the alternator while the engine is running. One will have full battery voltage. The secret is the voltage on the other one. It must be less but not 0 volts. Holler back with your measurements. There could be two small wires plugged in or there could be two small nuts on the two small tabs coming out of a small black plastic block.
