running bad

I have a 1992 gmc sonoma that runs rough when you put it in gear, any idea on what it could be

It is probably the Idle Air Control Valve which changes the engine idle with engine load, such as loads from being in gear, accesories, etc.
The other thing to check would be the fuel pressure.
