The engine cranks but doesn't run?

Bought this truck 2 weeks ago. Ran great. Ran great this morning, until husband called on lunch break and said it wouldn't start. It does crank over but not starting up. What should be the first thing we check out?

This sounds like a fuel pump has gone out. When you turn the key to the on position without cranking the engine over can you hear the fuel pump run in the tank for 5 seconds?
