Hi I have two questions. My ac system is empty of Freon it must have just leaked out through the seals. My question is if I replace the seals do I have to put oil on the seals to lubercate them. Also I am putting r12 back in it since I have a new bottle. Should I use mineral oil on the seals or Ester oil on them. Last question once I pull a vacuum and I see it is not leaking do I need to fill the system with oil. If so should I use mineral oil or Ester oil and how much oil do I need to add to this system. Advance auto has a can that does 8 and a half oz off of 1 can it lubercate a the seals. It is ester oil. Thanks.

First thing is the system should be leak checked not replace all the seals. Using R12 requires the correct oil ot go in an di forgot which oil it is as it's been so long since I've worked with it. Yes seals have to be lubed prior to install and if it's a major leak then oil should be added. Or if a major part is being replaced. Due to age of system if you add 1 or 2 oz. You shold be ok with that. Put the oil in prior to pulling a vacuum then turn compressor by hadn a few times. Then pump it down and refill it.
