I jammed the glovebox and have tried and tried and can't get it open.

The plastic parts in the handle will break causing it to not open, or its locked itself. If the key has no effect then youre going to have to just pry it open. This will finish breaking the latch which can then be replaced. Sometimes a small thin flat screwdriver will kinda get up in there under the handle and you can jimmy it if brut force isn't your bag
