car will shift hard and bang and some times it will go into neutral so i stop shut off car and restart it then it is ok. it will not go into 4th or(od) and has a general slip code for 3-4 any possibility it could be some thing other than just dried out clutches? Trans module or controller or something

Thank you did find an article on the a604 the short version is that the controller solenoid basically was needing a rebuild and that there is a kit for it. So i was thinking of trying that first. Is that the same as the module or is it some times called the transmission brain or controller

the solenoid kit isn't the same as the module. the module controls the solenoids. but if thyre not too expensive you might just try them first. cars of this age are hard to diagnose in the best circumstances, but you wont do harm by changing these solenoids
