1989 toyota pickup. I have a leak in my radiator whicj im am replacing, but I also do not have heat, could this be caused by my thermostat. If so how do I tell if I need to replace it?

How bad a leak? Low coolant can cause heater not to function. After radiator change, check heater hoses at firewall for hot. If 1 is cold/cool you probably have a plugged core. Backflushing may fix it. If both hot problem is inside with control system. If your truck has heater hose control valve check that too for open.
