If trans uses a pilot bushing in crank that can seize in rare cases putting constant drag on mainshaft. Is it hydraulic or cable clutch? Out of adjustment/defective can have similar effects.

You can try a bleed and see if it helps. If hydraulics and mechanical connections are fine from pedal to slave then it sounds like a failing pressure plate. Is trans fluid up to right level?

It should be easy to shift off normally. Pressure plate should not effect that. Was everything working fine previous to when this started happening?

Well the symptoms say the pressure plate is experiencing different degrees of release. So either it is failing or some other part of the mechanics of the release is. That is a really old car. Anything original in the release path is suspect.
