From time to time, my 89 Wrangler headlights and taillights go off, then come back on after 5-10 seconds.

Do you have a FLOOR DIMMER SWITCH as in a CJ?

On CJ's the connections get Loose, Burned. An we get exactly what you described!

It's really bad when you are ignorant to it, and they go completely out, under the worst of conditions. Then you get a ticket, While trying to "Limp It In", in the Dark!

I found it best to buy a new pigtail and switch, if the connectors are burned, USE DIELECTRIC GREASE On the Joints!

I learned this many years ago, and I have helped many others since, repairing theirs.

The Dimmer Switch on the 1989 Wrangler is mounted on the turn signal switch. I have already replaced it with a new one and have had the steering column replaced and it still happens.

Where is your Headlight switch?

Maybe it's the connections on it.......

Another thing you might try, is playing with your switches, holding them to one side or the other, while you are having your Light Spasms. Maybe you will see it improve or flash with whatever you are "Toggling" with, maybe that will narrow your search for the culprit.

Imma CJ Guy, I do not know much about your rig, other than basics, I do answer the CJ 5 and 7 forums with mega confidence.

This is one I'm currently helping, my links have not been working lately....you may have to copy and paste it on a new tab.

I am a member here, just like you, 'cept I have answered a lot! I try to answer things that I do know.

I saw you had been waiting a while, so I thought I would give it a shot.

Many times, I see someone get no answer, or a answer, way after it was really needed.............So I'm sorry if I was no help.

Hang around though, other people at the site sometimes come along and answer behind me.

Sorry,
