1989 Ford Ranger want start

The engine will crank but it want start, what could be the cause why it want start and what I need to check?

You need spark, fuel pressure, compression, and correct valve timing. It's not likely you lost compression in all cylinders at the same time. The engine won't sound normal during cranking if the timing chain jumped a few teeth or broke. That leaves fuel pressure and loss of spark as the two common causes of a no-start condition.

The engine do have spark when cranking but when I turn the key on I don't hear any sound coming from the fuel tank.

The pump better not be running with the ignition switch on. If it does, that presents a serious fire hazard if a fuel line gets ruptured in a crash. The pump should run during engine rotation, meaning cranking or running. You should have fuel pressure after cranking the engine for just a few seconds. If you do, the pump is working.

I replace the fuel pump assemely and the engine will now start and run.

Dandy. But you'll still find it doesn't run with just the ignition switch on. Happy to hear it's solved.
