It is most likely a type of fungus that grows in the A/C box/evporator.
Get a can of Lysol and spary it into the dash vents being careful not to let any stay on the dash to long as it may discolor it.
Even better is to opend the air box and spary it in directly at the evaporator.
The box is located under the dash and on the passenger side.
Also, the is a drain that allows condensation drip out/drain from sytem. You should notice that it makes a puddle of whter under the pasenger side of the vehicle near the back of the engine bay. It can get clogged or pinched and can cause the fungus problem to be worse and Lysol will not take care of it alone. It can damage parts as well.
Locate the darin and if you can, pull it out of the holder that retains it to the firewall, not too hard as you don't want to disconnect it from A/C drip pan inside of car, and spray Lysol in it too.
I hope this works for you because I had a friend with the same issue, it was awful.
It is a matter of getting the lysol to the fungus that is th ebiggest problem.
