1987 Ford Tempo engine

Will a 1986 ford tempo engine work in an 87 ford tempo. My engine needs to be replaced but the only one I can find is an 86 will that engine work? Or should I keep looking for something r just get a new car all together and save me the trouble of looking somewhere else?

As far as will the engine work, it is our policy to only recommend direct fit parts. We do that because there always seems to be a difference when you change year. However, if the engine is the same size, it SHOULD work.
