1986 Jaguar XJ-6 mileage: 200,000. My 1986 Jaguar XJ-6 is quite possibly the best car I have ever owned. I'm now approaching 200,000 miles and the engine shows no signs of giving up. Outside of a new thermostat and regular preventive maintenance, it takes little more than gas money from my wallet. The problem I have recently encountered is a slight shaking noise in the front passenger side when accelerating hard from a dead stop. The vehicle does weigh more than 5000 lbs, only makes this sound below 8-10 mph, and then goes away as speed increases.

I know you said this is in the front but if this only happens under hard acceleration then I suspect we have an issue with the rear axle shaft or another bushing on the rear axle that is causing the vibration when you are accelerating.

The fact that you can drive through it points directly to an axle issue or other drive line vibration. When you are accelerating hard you are causing additional torque that is pushing this component out of its proper alignment and it is vibrating.

We need to check the front and rear suspension for something worn out. You do this by lifting the vehicle on jack stands and shaking down the tires by hold them at 3 and 9 o'clock then push in and out on each side and see if there is movement.

Please see the info attached on the rear end which will help with different bushings and control arms. Please run through this and let us know what you find.
