How do you change the air pump/alternator/belt on the 85 cadillac seville with the 4.1L v8? I can't get to the rear tensioning nut on the air pump

Hello,

You need a 15mm swivel socket. Loosen the bolts then you'll see a long adjustment screw. Then pry up idem then spin the adjusting bolt

Check drive belt for cracks, fraying, wear and proper tension. Adjust or replace belts as necessary. Using a suitable belt tension gauge, adjust belt according to the following specifications: 5/16 inch-80 lbs. Max. (New), 50 lbs. Min. (Used); 3/8 inch-140 lbs. Max. (New), 70 lbs. Min. (Used); 15/32 inch-165 lbs. Max. (New), 90 lbs. Min. (Used).

Here is a guide that will give you an idea of what you are in for when doing the job

Here is what it will be like on your car (below)

Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Cheers, Ken

To swing the air pump down you will have to remove the alternator and then the pump line to the back of the air pump. Then you should be able to use a 15mm socket to release the back bolt. After that you will use a 1/2 in socket or wrench to reverse clockwise loosen the tension and slip the belt on. Reverse to tighten.
