Hello. At first I'm sorry for my english because I'm from Poland and don't know english so well.
I have problem with the engine in my 1979 caddy seville 5.7l . The last owner makes few changes in this car but I don't know is he do it good or not. The engine in this car is original but after rebuild and have about 4000KM mileage. Car was change from fuel injection to edelbrock carburetor. Car got two new sporting exhaust pipes , new sporting fuel pump summit racing, Car now has a lot lot of more power than before.
In the beginnig we saw the new fuel pump give to the engine to much fuel and we have problem with engine runnig. spark plugs were wet. We changed fuel pump for other with lower pressure and now it's better. We adjust carburetor and ignition but we have now another problems. When You press gas pedal almost to the end there are very loud explosions. Explosions are through carburetor or through exhaust pipes. explosions are so big and loud so we can't close the hood. It will damage the hood when will be close. When we was searching for the reason we saw the loose crankshaft. In this week we will try to get out and see what condition is crankshaft. What do You think about this situation. Is this loose crankshaft is the reason of those explosions? Is the crankshaft must have any crack because it's loose? If it's crack it's because car have now too much power to this engine? Are they should change crankshaft for other if they makes those changes? I don't think they wrong put crankshaft in the engine after rebuilt or is it possible too?
We don't have here too much experience with american cars so I will be very thankful for any help. Thank You very much.

check firing order on engine and check for bent pushrods if not an overhead cam. then check for valves not opening while running it may be a bad camshaft.
