This morning while driving smoke came out of the bonnet, first thought it is a electrical problem. But the air filter pipe was melting and oil all over. Guess the oil was from the oil bath air filter because engine oil level was ok. Engine was still running and switched of after stopping.

There is no particular reason for this as the only real point of electrical contact that may cause a fire is the glow system.S that still working correctly? Do you run a turbo? Is the engine bay clean and free of anything like leaves and the such that can burn?

Checked yesterday electrics are ok no rubbish in the engine compartment. Engine still runs but a bit uneven. Air inlet butterfly looks bane looks like there was a back fire which the thet alight the carbon deposits in the airfilter pipe?

A backfire through an intake valve could possibly cause the oil bath filter to ignite.
