I have two jeeps, the one I have a title for and know what year it is, a 1976 cj5 the other I don't. I'm wondering how to tell what year the other is. It's not exactly like my '76 in that it has a little compartment under the passenger seat. Can you give some advice?

Describe the steering column---as compared to your '76

Describe the door openings as compared w/ the '76

If you can give me the VIN, I will tell you everything that the digits mean.

On '75-'80,

1st is "J" ----Jeep Corp

2nd VIN DIGIT is last digit of year, For instance:

"5" is '75,

"6" is '76, and so on, thru '80

The VINs 4th and 5th digits are :

83= CJ 5

84= CJ 6

93= CJ 7

The rest is tranny and engine + Carb

I can maybe identify things before and after these years, if this does not help.

Waintin' on your response

OK, just registered with me, w/ the compartment thing, beneath the seat

I feel sure you have an earlier Jeep than I described, IS IT A FLAT HOOD/ FLAT FENDER? Or does the nose clip looks like your '76?

VIN would be helpful!
