Sometimes the check engine light will come on causing to throw off the p0301 code. The check engine light will eventually turn off then about two or three weeks later it will come back on. Now it is staying on and runs rough when the light turns off. It runs fine but now that the light is staying on and will not shut off. It is running rough but it is not backfiring while driving, it just runs rough especially at a idle. Also, you can hear a small tick but not bad for it to be a damaged engine because it does not over heat at all.

I do not see a five cylinder or a 3.7 in a 2002 Dodge Dakota, are you sure?
What is the eighth digit of the VIN number, a P, X, N or Z?
Anyhow, if this has spark plug wires, I would start with new spark plugs and wires.
If it is a coil on plug, I would install a new cop for number one.

As I was saying above, I have notice when I go to shift there is a jerk like it is tugging like it is hesitating and when driving up there to speed on the highway it feels like I got brand new tires on it it does not, they are used tires. They are bigger tire then what is called for on the door, but that should not have anything to do with the p0301 code. But, probably will not help the number one cylinder misfiring with the extra weight of the tires. If I damaged my engine because of the misfiring and not taking care of it right off could my truck still be fixed with the engine still running strong?
