I haven't had any issues with the used van I have had for 20,000 miles. Now at just under 190,000. All was fine today after 4 hours plus of total driving (2 hours one way. 4 hours there, 2 hours back). No issues with the van. Get to a roundabout and suddenly the van stalls out as I get to a stop just before the roundabout. Put into park. Starts right up and idles just fine. Put I to drive and it stalls out with a little lurch as I hit the gas this time. Third time starts fine. Goes into reverse and goes fine. Shift the transmission into drive and it stalls out. Started it again and revved the engine to a point I got it revved enough to stay running with a lurching start to get it home.

I waited an hour I went back outside, it started just fine, and idled fine. Shifts into reverse fine but shifts into drive and it shuts off.

Please help!

Hi,

It sounds like the torque converter clutch (TCC) solenoid is bad and causing the clutch to stay engaged. I need to know what size engine is in the van. Also, have you tried to retrieve diagnostic trouble codes?

Interestingly, I have seen these fail in the same way you described. Reverse will still work but when placed in drive, the vehicle lurches and stalls.

Make sure the transmission fluid is clean and full also.

Let me know.
