I took my car to the shop and was told I needed the water pump replaced and was told the cost would be around 450.00 or maybe a little more. When the mechanic called back he said the cost would be $2000. Is this an unreasonable price;

Um, the first price that he quoted is a little more ideal of a price. Water pump replacements usually average around $300. I would NEVER pay $2,000 to have a water pump replaced. It is only about a 2 hour job.
