Electrical problem
1997 Pontiac Grand Prix V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

when I turn the key, everything comes on. But when I try to start the car it clicks and nothing will work untill I have disconnected/connected the positive battery cable. What's wrong?

I didn't see a v8 listed? Maybe a problem with battery connection. My info showed an ignition main 1 maxi fuse--40 amp, underhood junction block. When the problem occurs, use a testlite on the circuit, see if it is hot? If it isn't hot, there is wiring problem. I'd also have to make sure the battery has a full charge. 12.6 volts is the generic spec for a fully charged battery. I looked at the starter motor circuit. There is no pcm or security control on the starter motor circuit, that I could find.
