1997 Pontiac Grand Prix 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

i have a 97 grand prix. I out a new battery and starter in it. It wont start. When I turn the key forward the head lights go out but nothing happens. Any suggestions?

First, clean all battery connections, both battery and starter. Check for 12V at main starter wire and block ground.

Clean grounds are critical to the starter, since it grounds to block.
