A leaking head gasket is a likely possibility, but also look for a green puddle in front of the right rear tire. There is a rubber o-ring in the quick connector for each hose to the rear heater. The o-rings shrink in the cold weather and leak. The new superceded hoses each have two o-rings, ... That shrink and leak in the cold weather.

The only way to fix this permanently is to remove the plastic hoses and install simple, reliable bulk heater hose and regular clamps. To burp the air out of the rear heater core, you must pinch off one of the hoses, then loosen the rear clamp on that hose when the system is under pressure. The pressure will force the coolant up through the heater core.
