Engine Performance problem
2002 Nissan Altima 4 cyl Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 117000 miles

okay, you gave someone else a reset "thing" about a week ago to relearn the idle. I've done that before (a few months ago) b/c mycar engine was reving on its own & the rpm needle thing was jumping all around. So the problem semi came back. It's not reving on its own yet but the rpm needle is jumping around again. Today I got on the hwy, was doing about 80 then realized that my speed was dropping gradually. When I was at 65mph I was pushing on the gas to accelerate but my car wouldn't go any faster. I was at my exit so I got off the hwy. I was able to accelerate when I got off the hwy from a stop but my car was making an extra noise like it was trying really hard but not really accelerating as quickly as it should have. Any ideas? I thought maybe the catalytic converter after reading on the web. Got no clue but must take it to shop ASAP (tomorrow)

Test the throttle position sensor might be out of range/have a weak spot in it. Check the closed and wide open throttle voltages.

Thanks. My o2 sensors were bad. I replaced them & the next day my engine light came on again. This time it is my front catalytic converter that is bad & needs to be replaced. I am going to get rid of my car at this point. ASAP! I already know that my coolant is leaking out somewhere in my engine. I used some stop leak stuff in my radiator and that helped keep the coolant from leaking out but i'm thinkint it was too late since my catalytic converter is now bad. My car accelerates from stop but at about 20mph it won't go anymore & sounds like an airplane. I have to release the gas pedal & push again to get it to go. Hopefully I can at least trade it. I don't expect much. I cannot believe a 2002 altima with 117000 miles is doing this! Thanks for your help though
