Engine Mechanical problem
1997 Mazda 626 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I HAVE A 97 MAZDA 626, IT SOUND LIKE SOMETHING IS RATTLING AT IDLE, SOMETIME IT CUTS OFF AT A STOP LIGHT. I WAS DRIVING ONE DAY AND IT JUST CUT OFF ON ME. NOW WHEN I TRY TO START IT, NOTHING HAPPENS, ONLY THE PULLEYS SPIN. NO START, NO SOUND FROM MOTOR, ONLY THE PULLEYS SPIN.

Need a little more info. I believe your oil service cap is on the valve cover. Remove it and look inside. Hopefully you can see the top of one or two valve rocker arms. If you can great. While looking at them, have someone try and start the car. If they don't move but the pulleys are, then that means the bottom of the engine is turning but the top isn't which probably means your timing belt has broken. If you can not see the rocker arms since sometimes they have a splash plate right inside the hole, try looking from side to side of it. If you still can not see, the next thing I would do is remove the valve cover and lift it up enough to see the rockers and have someone turn it over. WATCH YOUR FINGERS AND ANYTHING LOOSE! If they don't move, the belt is broken. The belt is number 16 in the pic.
