Transmission problem
2001 Honda Civic 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 115k miles

manual transmission, pops out of 2nd and 3rd gear? One place says maybe a cable and that transmission fluid has metal shavings in it. Will replace fluid, filter and replace cable (if thats the problem) for 350 $ Whats your call?

Sounds like "that place"made a mistake somewhere along the line.

Under severe service schedules that fluid should have been changed 3 times by now, how many times was it?

There is no filter to change as it is a manual not an automatic. There are no adjustments. So if there is play in the linkage or worn linkage going to the transmission from the shifter, then replace it. I expect this is internal and not in the linkage. If true, then I would consider a rebuilt or a used tranmission.
