Take a good spark plug (it could be from your lawn mower) and remove one of the spark plug wires from the engine. Plug it into the extra plug and lay the steel part of the plug on a steel part of the engine so it grounds. Now have a helper crank the engine while you watch the end of the spark plug for spark. You should be able to see it. If it is strong, it will be blue in color. Orange /white is a weak spark.
