I bought a 97 dodge dokota used 180,000 miles
it ran fine for about 3000 miles then its symptoms led me to belive a fuel pump was bad so after replacing it twice with a tune up cap roter plugs and a new o2 senser it ran fine for a wile now the darn thing is acting up again traced it down to 1 of the computer plugs on the ecm
the 1 being the most forward plug now the darn thing keeps stalling and the cat converter is ratteling so my q is do I replace the ecu or is my cat pluging up causing my ecu to shut down the truck, sincearly mr. Baffeld

I had this problem on a 98 dakota. I just cut the cat off, and welded a piece of pipe in place, and it ran fine after that, but I'm not gonna make any garantees that it will work, but it is definately the cheaper way to go.

Yes a bad converter will plug up your exhaust and make your vehicle shut down or get bad gas mileage. Do NOT put a straight pipe in replacement of your converter, this is acting as a backyard mechanic and it will make your truck get a lot worse gas mileage! Replace the converter with a new one and your truck will run like new again.
