Engine problem
1996 Chevy Monte Carlo 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive 128000 miles

I notices my car got hot for like 30 seconds (which is abnormal) so I checked under the hood and noticed My water pump went out. I had it repaired but no the heat goes in and out for long periods of time and the engine temperature gauage moves constantly from cold to hot. What causes the to happen?

Sounds like you need to bleed the air from the cooling system. There should be a bleed screw on top of the heater pipe that is located behind the water pump. Loosten this screw then fill the coolant. Tighten the screw then top off the coolant.

Thank you for you reply. I followed the instructions that you gave me but the problem still exsist. I noticed there were air bubbles in the fill bottle in the car. Also if I warm the car up for like 20 - 30 minutes it doesnt occur unless I get into higher speeds (like around 50). Is there anything else that could cause that?

Well I think it was the thermostat. But I have a new problem that has been occuring for boutt two weeks. It starts up fine and drives fine but now after letting the engine run for a 5-10 minutes in park the engine will stall like its not getting gas and wont start while hot. When the engine cools it works fine.
