I have a 1999 Honda Accord. It died one day, it would start; but die immediatly. I adjusted the throttle cable & bolts to an open position, and have been driving it that way for several months. The bolts have loosened from time to time, and I have adjusted that cable again, and off I go. It dies about every 2 weeks or so, and on occasion, I have to put 1 foot on the brake and 1 on the gas to get it down the street. It has died @ 5 times at a stop light; 3 times one night, in a 5 minute period. Any suggestions or questions? It is a 4-cyl. With @ 140,000 miles. Thank you much!

The idling system is malfunctioning and the most common cause is a dirty throttle body, IAC and idling speed out of adjustment.

What you did was the wrong way to increase the idling speed as the throttle cable can vary in length depending on the condition thereby the idling would be erratic. At top of throttle body there is a recessed hole with a slotted screw, turning it anticlockwise would increase the idling speed.

Have the items listed cleaned and idling speed readjusted to rectify.
