Car and Truck Engine T.B.I. (throttle body injection) Fuel Injection Questions

This category contains featured questions as examples. They relate to most vehicles.

Question: 1989 Chevrolet Camaro, mileage: 187,000.  I have backfiring thru the TBI unit problem.  I have changed the EMC, TBI unit, map sensor, dist module, set the timing, and scanned the computer with my Snap-On scanner, all to no avail.  There are no codes in diagnostic or driving mode.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.

Answer:  Check for internal engine problems such as a blown head gasket, broken valve spring or rocker arm, flat cam etc.

Question: 1992 Buick Skylark 2.5, mileage 103,000. No gas out of T.B.I. unit. I replaced whole unit and no change. Good gas pressure to it. Pour gas in manually and it will fire. I wiggled wires, rapped on computer, etc. I have electricity to T.B.I. with switch on, and a ground on the same wire when switch off. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

Answer: The T.B.I. unit is controlled by a number of inputs to the PCM. If the PCM sees no distributor reference, or oil pressure, it will not send a pulse to the injector, or if there is no power to PCM, no injector operation can occur.
