My saturn starts up rough with a funny idle and the check engine light turns on. Funny thing is after I let it warm up a bit and drive it, I turn iy off for a couple of minutes and start it up again, it starts fine and runs smooth with the check engine light turning off. Another quirk I noticed was that the engine temp guage would barely move after a 20 or so mile drive, and was wondering if the thermostat was broken. Could these problems be related?

Here's what i would do i would change your coolant temp sensor that would explain the temp gauge and how it run's.Also make sure you inspect the connector going to the sensor if it's corroded then you will have to change the connector too.Make sure you get a brass tipped sensor the plastic tipped one's crack. The sensor's are only 10 really cheap and they have a high failure rate.Make sure the engine is cold and you will loose some coolant.
