My clutch gave me no problems. I had the ignition fixed as the key was sticking in the Lock position. This required taking the steering wheel post apart. Since it was repaired, the engine is racing and the accelerator feels like it is sticking when I try to shift like it is trying to go into cruise control. After a few seconds, the RPM goes down to normal. To avoid the racing, I have to let off on the accelerator, wait for the RPM to decrease, then shift. As a result I have no power in the shift so I have to go slow until I get to fourth or fifth. I had a transmission man drive the car and he thinks it is a problem with the accelerator. So the question is, in putting the steering column back together, could they have messed up the cruise control/accelerator?

Hi flosamuels,

Thank you for the donation.

The steering wheel controls would not affect the accelerator cable adjustment as they are electrical.

I would suggest checking the accelerator cable adjustment. Something could be out of adjustment and when this occurs, the throttle would not close fully and this would cause the sympoms described.

Check if the accelerator cable under the dash is kinked, bent etc.
