Six cylinder front wheel drive automatic 113,000 miles.

When trying to set cruise control, it will not engage and the light will not stay on. I get the cruise control to engage only after repeatedly pushing the set control twenty to thirty times and sometimes not at all. When I touch the brakes to disengage the cruise, sometimes the cruise will not be resume when pressing the resume control.

This is usually a problem with the cruise control disconnect switch on the bottom of the brake master cylinder.

The switch is "stuck" in the closed position, so the computer thinks you have your foot on the brake and is doing what it should, namely disengaging the cruise.

Part is about $35.00 at a dealer and it takes about fifteen minutes to put it on.

If you chose to do this yourself, be careful that you do not cross thread the switch when you put it in as you will strip the threads and then have to replace the master cylinder as well.
