Engine Mechanical problem
1997 Ford Explorer V8 All Wheel Drive Automatic

to set cam sensor it says go to notch in pulley. Do I go to 0 degree or to notch on other side of pulley (about 180 degrees from 0) for top dead center.

Hello,

0 Degrees is TDC if you use the other notch you will be 180 Degrees out. You will also need to make sure you are on the Compression Stroke. If not sure you can remove the Number 1 Plug and have someone just hit the key and bump the engine over. You probably want to Disconnect the Coil(s) first so the engine doesn't start accidentally. You will know when the #1 cylinder is around TDC when you hear or feel air rush out the plug hole. Then just make sure the mark is at 0 degrees.

Not quite sure what you mean by "how many miles to clear sensors?". If you cleared the codes then engine light should be off.

If talking about making sure it was sensor and how long it would take for light to come back on, it could be a couple hours of driving or a couple days of on and off driving or even a month. However, as long as light is off and you have no codes pending you should be good for inspection.
