My emergency front crash warning light has been on since I bought the car, how can I turn it off or reset it, is there a way to disconnect it? I know how to turn off the system through menus when I start the car but that does not turn off or reset the warning light. Thank you very much for any help anyone can give me in regard to this issue, I really need to figure this out. Thank you

Hi,

There are several different things that can cause this. By chance, was the vehicle ever in an accident? I ask because there could be an issue with the airbag module, seat belt pre-tensioner, crash zone sensor, and the list goes on.

I mention this because it won't reset until the problem is identified and repaired. So, here is what I recommend. What we need to do is have the can-bus scanned to determine what is causing this. CAN stands for controller area network.

Basically, the different modules in the vehicle are tied together via a few wires. This type of scan will retrieve codes regardless of the module storing them. A traditional scan won't recognize most of the modules on the vehicle.

Here is a link showing how to scan the CAN:

Let me know if this is something you can do or have done. Also, let me know what codes are retrieved.

Take care,

Joe

Thank you. I actually was looking at getting an obd2 scanner and CAN scanner seems very similar buy I was not aware of the can scanner, only the obd2. I don't have much money but now I will be looking for a can scanner I might be able to afford instead of the obd2 I was going to get. Thank you for the info. Sad to know warning light can't just be turned off though. Both the dealership and Carfax claimed there were no accidents with this particular vehicle but the front bumper on it sat a bit weird. I'm thinking it was in an accident just somehow never reported to anyone.

Hi,

Oftentimes, people have repairs done and don't turn them in to the insurance company. They do this to prevent a rate increase, or they may not have insurance.

Now, I may have confused you. An OBD2 and CAN scanner are basically the same things. No need to get two different things. You just need an OBD2 scan tool that can read codes from the CAN.

If you want to spend a good bit more, there is a bi-directional scanner. This is the newest (I believe) on the market. In this design, the scan tool doesn't just receive information from the different modules, but it can input info. Often times this is beneficial to check things like solenoids, sensors, and so on by forcing them to actuate.

If you look below, I picked a basic OBD2 can-bus scan tool on Amazon. Take a look at it and let me know if you have questions. Also, please understand, I don't own this tool. I just picked one that described what is needed.

Let me know.

Joe

Hi,

No problem whatsoever. Let me know how I can help or if you have additional questions. Also, the pic I attached is only one example. There are a lot of them made at a reasonable price. When you start getting into the bi-directional scanners, the prices jump.

Take care,

Joe
