1988 Chevy Camaro firing order

I was wondering how you can figure out the firing order because someone messed up my plug wires and I don't know what the firing order is.I know the book says its 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 but im sure that isnt it because the car wont start. So is there an easy way to figure out the firing order?

What engine size? 3.0L, 3.8L etc?
