How do you reset your check engine light?

The check engine lamp is turned on anytime a diagnostic trouble code(DTC) is set. This code correlates to a system failure detected by one of the on-board modules. You can typically clear the codes by disconnecting the battery for a period of time, however if you don't address the condition that originally turned the light on, it's bound to come back in the near future.

The preferred method of reading and clearing DTCs is by use of a code scanner. Take a look at the article below for more information.
