HI,
My car is stalling after running for a short time. It runs smoothly then all of a sudden it runs rough and stops.
I have recently replaced the fuel filter and spark plug leads, but still have this problem.
Thank you
Mark

Hi markcorinna,

You need to check the idling system.

When cold the fast idle is working so the idling rpm is higher. When operating temp is reached, idling rpm drops that is when it will stall.

Get the throttle body cleaned ans idle speed readjusted(if equipped with idle adjust screw).

Hi KHLow2008,
Thank you for your help. I remember having a similar problem with a Honda Odyssey which ended up being a fault with the ignition.
Our car stalled twice when my wife drove the car yesterday and I guess this happened once the car warmed up. She managed to get home with the car stalling about every mile.

Is cleaning the throttle body something I can do or is it something for a mechanic to work on?

THank you
Mark

Hi Mark,

Just grab a can of carb cleaner and remove the air cleaner hose. Spray into the throttle valve area and try to open the throttle to get the throttle valve area clean.

Wait for the carb cleaner to dry out before starting.

HI KHLow2008,
I think I understand. Do you mean I should be removing the hose that comes from the air filter?

Thank you
Mark

Yes. Remove the hose from the air cleaner and you can get access to the throttle body.

Carb cleaner would wash away the accumulated dirt, especially the area where the valve closes.
