After I started my car this morning. I started to release my clutch and the trans. Was engaged even though my shifter was in neutral. I could not release the clutch without the car wanting to jump forward and stall out. I put it in first gear to try and drive it forward and it mad a bad grinding noise and I really had to gas it to get it to move and it smelled like the clutch was burning out. Any ideas what might be going on with my transmission?

I feel that the transmission selector has failed and the car is in gear with the stick in neutral. So when you try to select a gear you are actually trying to select 2 gears at once, you will have to get this towed to you're mechanic for further inspection.
