I was wondering if there was an easy was to replace the main bearings while the engine is still in the car and the crankshaft is still in too. The way that I was told to replace them was to turn the crankshaft and push on 1 side till the top half worked its way through. The problem I am having is that the timing chain is still in and I need 1 person to hold the chain while I turn the crankshaft.

This will not work, the engine will have to be removed to do this correctly.

Theorotically that is correct but practically it is not going to work because you are going to damage the end seal and oil leaks would follow.

Only con-rod bearings can be done this way and if the main bearings requires replacement, chances are the crankshaft is not going to be in good condition.
