1998 Ford Escort, 150,000kms. Daughters car and she is 2 hours away. Problem with running. Car starts great and runs great. Sometimes, but not always when she is in any manual gear and RPM is between 1500 and 2000, the car will hesitate for a split second then take off again. If at idle in neutral and I bring revs to 1500+, it will do it and watching the tack, revs drop and bounce right back. No other electrical gauge affected. If she keep the revs high when shifting, it does not do it. If she creeps along it sometimes will do it repeatably in that RPM range. Once over 2000 RPM, no issue. When she is on the highway it runs great. Have changed the coil pack, TPS, plugs [new Champion double Platinum as per book] new plug wires, new gas filter. Have checked and cleaned all electrical connectors accessible. Cleaned MAF sensor. Have had it on a scanner at a garage, no code comes up. Really stumped, any help appreciated!

Try an EEC relay, just for laughs. They are cheap and ive seen many strange problems created by them. Get back to me

Hi, I called my parts supplier and they don't list an EEC relay!
What is the full name for the EEC?

Well. Since you didn't reply, I chased around and found out what the EEC relay is and when you say try it just for laughs, I guess the joke is on me! I sent you some coin to get an answer. I was willing to send more for a good answer, not a ridiculous one! That part is not cheap as you mentioned but over $200.00! And from your reply, it seems you don't have a good answer! You are guessing. I could guess at anything myself! I have changed out numerous parts as I noted in my original email, guessing for the right one! You are supposed to be knowledgeable. And asking for donations to support your site.
Oh well, I have learned my lesson asking advise of internet 'mechanics'.

Funny how the people that have the problems are quick to bash those trying to help.? There seems to be an unwritten law that the mechanic is the guy who is at fault and should be abused if that person doesn't get the magical answer. :X Bottom line is here is you are too cheap to have your daugher take it to a garage and have a professional who has the tools, test equiptment and most importantly: THE CAR, to properly diagnose it.

Like 2CarPro Jack, I donate my time to help people, and have much success. We also try to help ingrates such as yourself at our expense. How much did you donate? More than what it would cost to have your daughter take it in? OF course not.

2CarPro Jack tried to help by doing something your daughter could do that was cheap and easy to do. You don't have the car so were working with a thrid party situation. How much can we do in this situation? 2CarPro Jack posted at 4:24pm. Perhaps, he had an opportunity to check online at that time. Maybe he has a life outside of of this forum. Maybe he has a family that isn't 2 hours away. You get up in the morning at at 7:18 the next day and Blast him? :Shock:

You just helped me make up my mind as to what I am going to do this afternoon. It won't be sitting here.

Very interesting reply. So some more info for ya,

1. Check any and all vacuum lines, especially @ the vacuum manifold on the intake.
2. Though no codes popped, what where the data stream values. Ie: tps voltage, O2 condition, voltage, shifting speed etc, maf voltage and frequency at the specific rpm's indicated. Just because no codes were present DOES NOT mean the is not a specific sensor value out of synch and "tricking" the PCM into an incorrect setting
3. This "internet technician" is a certified professional, as are most of the folks here, and the rest are some pretty darn smart do it yourself mechanics. Feel free to email me or pm me with the data from my recommendations and I'll be able to better help you, information is king my friend. And thats what we need to get it done right. I guess Jack didn't really want me to get back to him as per his email! Although I got back right away.
And please don't insult my intelligence! I sent you a donation, regardless the amount, expecting a helpful answer. If you guys have committed to servicing this site then you should commit to do your best. I don't know if you are working for free! It's an internet site. How would I! Maybe you are sponsored by parts people, I don't know!
And why would I donate the same amount as I would pay at a garage, if I don't even know what to expect! I would just go to the garage, I know what to expect from them!
And actually I have spent quite a bit of money on new parts as I have had it into a garage twice and with no codes, they suggested certain things and parts to replace, which I did!
And I don't have all the numbers from all the checks, if I had those, why would I need advice! Somebody would be checking and suggesting a direction.
Point is, I contacted for advice and donated even before I received an answer. I committed honestly. Then I receive a cheesy answer.
I always believe, a man outta do what he thinks is best.
If you don't want to be there, don't!

And actually the local dealer repair garage is about $98.50 per hour. Pathetic to charge that amount to fix a car! That's why people decide to do some of their own repairs!

I never brought your intelligence into question, I think you have done a good job of exposing it; certainly better than I could have done.
It was your charactor that I insulted, not your intelligence.

3 times in your post you remark "I don't know" in regards to this site. Isn't that in itself enough to give us a "little" slack, aka benefit of the doubt? If you are so dedicated to doing the best you can, why did you let your daughter drive off with a car you couldn't fix? Or was that the best you can do for her?
